Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 17, 2026

PublishMap ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and safeguard your information when you use our platform.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create a PublishMap account, we collect your email address and authentication provider details. If you sign in with Google OAuth, we receive your email address and basic profile information from Google.

Email Address

Your email address is used for account identification, important service notifications, and (optionally) marketing communications. We do not share your email address with third parties for marketing purposes.

Authentication Providers

We support Google sign-in via OAuth 2.0. When you authenticate with Google, we receive only the information you authorize Google to share with us. We do not store your Google password.

Usage Analytics

We collect anonymous usage data to improve the platform, including feature interactions, page views, and error reports. This data does not personally identify you. We may use third-party analytics services that process data in accordance with their own privacy policies.

Manuscript privacy: PublishMap may use anonymized product usage data and submitted feedback to improve the platform. We never send the body of your manuscript, chapter drafts, editor autosaves, or AI chat content to analytics or third-party services. We track behavior and metadata only (which features you use, when, on what device) — not the words you write.

Billing Information

Subscription payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your full credit card details on our servers. Stripe handles payment data in accordance with PCI-DSS standards. We retain billing records, subscription status, and payment history for account management and tax purposes.

User-Generated Content

Content you create on PublishMap — including publishing roadmaps, project dashboards, editor documents, progress tracking data, and other manuscript-related information — is stored securely and associated with your account. You retain ownership of all content you create.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide, maintain, and improve the PublishMap platform
  • To process and manage your subscription and billing
  • To communicate with you about your account, updates, and support
  • To analyze usage patterns and improve user experience
  • To detect, prevent, and address technical issues and abuse
  • To comply with legal obligations

3. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with our services. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate business purposes (such as billing records).

User-generated content is retained according to your account status. Deleted projects and documents are permanently removed from our active systems.

4. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including:

  • Encryption of data in transit (TLS/SSL) and at rest
  • Secure authentication via OAuth 2.0
  • Role-based access controls and Row-Level Security (RLS) on database tables
  • Regular security reviews and dependency updates
  • PCI-compliant payment processing through Stripe

No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

5. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Request deletion of your personal data
  • Object to or restrict certain processing activities
  • Export your data in a portable format

To exercise these rights, please contact us using the information below.

6. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Google OAuth — for authentication
  • Stripe — for payment processing
  • Analytics providers — for anonymous usage insights

These services have their own privacy policies and data practices. We only share the minimum information necessary for each service to function.

7. Children's Privacy

PublishMap is not intended for use by children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by email or through the platform. Your continued use of PublishMap after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
